Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages Department

At Ashton we offer French.  We also encourage students who have the ability to speak additional languages to gain accreditation in those languages. We have entered pupils for GCSE examinations in Spanish, Urdu, Italian, Chinese and Polish.

The following topics are studied during Key Stage 3.

  • Future holidays
  • “Le Petit Prince” book and film study

Year 8

  • Future life and aspirations
  • Past holidays
  • “Les Choristes” film study

Homework is set regularly and all tasks are recorded on Show My Homework.

We follow a 3 year Key Stage 4 with students beginning their GCSE French studies in Year 9. Students who opt to study GCSE French currently follow the AQA Specification. This qualification leads to a GCSE at grades 9-1. Assessment of the course is through examinations in the summer term of Year 11 when students are examined on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each skill has a 25% weighting.

The following topics are studied during Key Stage 3.

  • Relationships with family and friends
  • Marriage and partnership
  • Home, town, neighbourhood and region
