27 June 2016

On Tuesday 21st June, a team of six year 7 students attended a local, inter-school competition experience. The day was based around the BBC micro:bit device, which has been designed to introduce year 7 students to coding and inspire their interest in this area, thus enabling them to move onto other, more complex devices in future.

The event took place at UCLan University Campus and was based around a full day of challenge. Each team were shown the basics of programming, with the micro:bit device, before being asked to plan, design, create and present their work to the rest of the other schools.

Throughout the day, ‘Team Ashton’ showed great determination, drive and above all else teamwork to finish runners up.  The challenge they faced together was difficult and had to be done completely independently from any input from myself.

I am extremely proud of the Year 7 team and they will now go on to act as ‘Digital Leaders’ to assist in promoting and distributing the BBC Micro:bit, to the rest of their year group.

Well done!
