Maya S Year 11 - “During the summer holidays, I was extremely lucky to receive the opportunity to attend the BAE SYSTEMS work experience. At first it was quite nerve racking as I didn’t know anyone, but I’ve come out of it with a bunch of friends who I’ll never forget. The work experience was for a week and each day there was something new that we were doing. We listened to people who gave talks about their experience in BAE and what they do whether it may be an apprenticeship, having the role as an engineer or being a project control or manager.

I was lucky enough to go on a tour around the Samlesbury and Warton sites. We saw where the planes were created, and I was even able to sit in a fighter jet plane! Since no one really knew each other on the first day we played a game to introduce ourselves to everyone which definitely worked as by the end of the week everyone became friends. This definitely helped as we were set a lot of group projects where we had to present our work. This was quite challenging for me as I do tend to struggle with presenting in front of a lot of people, however it went great and definitely improved my confidence for the future.

On that note BAE SYSTEMS is definitely an option I’m looking at taking in the future as it’s a great company with great people and personally I found the engineer role very interesting!”
