Our goal at Ashton CSC is for every child to attend school every day and arrive on time.

Why School Attendance Matters

Regular school attendance is key to your child’s success—both now and in the future. Here’s why it’s so important:

  • Better Learning: Children who attend regularly keep up with lessons and perform better in exams.
  • Skill Building: Every school day offers valuable learning that supports personal and academic growth.
  • Social Skills: Being in school helps children build friendships and learn how to work with others.
  • Healthy Routines: Attending school daily builds good habits like time management and responsibility.
  • Teacher Support: Regular attendance allows teachers to give your child the help they need.
  • Avoiding Gaps: Missing school can lead to falling behind, making it harder to catch up.
  • Full Participation: Children who attend regularly can enjoy clubs, sports, and other school activities.
  • Legal Responsibility: Parents are legally required to ensure their child attends school.
  • Stronger Communities: Good attendance supports a positive and successful school environment for all.

Our new inclusive attendance model encourages collaboration between school, families, and students. Together, we’ll work to identify and overcome any barriers to attendance, ensuring every child feels supported and ready to learn.

Introducing Our Multi-Tiered System of Support

To ensure that every child receives the right level of support, we have developed a multi-tiered system of intervention

Each tier outlines clear roles and responsibilities for everyone involved: school staff, children, parents, and our wider support network. The system aligns with the Department for Education's (DFE) "Working Together to Improve School Attendance" guidelines.

  • Tier 1: A universal approach that benefits all students through consistent expectations, positive reinforcement, and clear communication.
  • Tiers 2 and 3: Targeted and intensive support for children and families who may face additional challenges. These tiers involve collaboration between teachers, school leaders, parents, and external agencies—including the Local Authority—to remove barriers to attendance.
